it’s actually been enforced in America since 1989 and enforced in New Zealand since 1928. The Berne Convention pretty much states
that if any citizens in a country that is in the Berne convention (which contains 164 countries) decides to violate another countries’ piracy or copyright laws, that country will be held liable to extradite that citizen to be taken to trial in the other country.
New Zealand being the former and America the latter.
So to be honest, it’s not much like Hitler invading Poland
